It’s no secret that Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt is the latest contestant on Coaches on the hot seat in the SEC East. Will Muschamp is out at South Carolina despite a nearly $15 million buyout and former Gamecocks assistant and Oklahoma associate head/tight ends coach Shane Beamer is set to take over. Derek Mason has also been relieved of his duties at Vanderbilt.

Now the pressure could be heating up for Pruitt who is 15-18 overall at UT and is riding a six-game losing streak. If the Vols don’t find a way to get past their in-state rival to the west, you can almost book it that Texas A&M would end up handing them their 8th straight loss to wrap up the regular season next weekend.

Tennessee has its share of issues right now but the glaring one is at the QB position and the offense overall. The Vols haven’t scored at least 21 points in a game since a Oct. 10 loss to Georgia in Athens. The Jarrett Guarantano era is (I’ll say it for you, Vol fans) FINALLY coming to a close. After living in Tennessee for much of his UT career it was frustrating enough to me just watching him play the last few years. And I’m not even remotely a fan of the Vols. But this has nothing to do with him as he didn’t take a single snap on Saturday.

Things are just a bad all around right now and UT just looks like a dysfunctional program. Just check out this tweet I saw over the weekend:

No bueno, Coach Pruitt. No bueno at all. We’ll see what happens but if we’ve learned anything so far, we probably shouldn’t bank on Pruitt’s job being safe this year because of the Covid-19 mulligan. I do think he’s safe regardless until next season. But if for nothing more than peace of mind Saturday night, he HAS to take care of business against Vanderbilt.
